Can we talk about how fantastically Jake’s relationships with women are handled?

  • He helps women not because of some “heroes need to save women because women need saving and chivalry” mentality, but because it’s a damn nice thing to do, regardless of gender.
  • And he does not want you giving any woman shit.
  • Which leads to his relationships. Jake, to my admittedly mildly fuzzy recollection (it’s been a while!), never put down any of his exes. Things went south for various reasons but he respects the relationship and the women enough to not say anything against them. This is even more important when you consider that they play Jake as the more experienced “ladies’ man” who tries to guide Finn in regards to romance. He’s indirectly showing that things can go bad in a romance but in most cases, those people still deserve respect.
  • And the way he treats Lady is great, especially in regards to her language. She clearly knows enough English to respond to questions and comments in Korean, but he never pushes her to actually speak the language herself. She either has no interest in learning to speak English or she simply prefers using her first language, and so Jake adapts for her. He learns Korean to make communicating easier, and even goes so far as to try to find alternative means of communicating in English when the language barrier causes issues between Lady and his friends. He doesn’t make her use a language she’s not comfortable with. He does what he can to compromise or makes her comfort his first priority.
  • Just. Jake feels man.
